Fresh Oysters Frequently Asked Questions
How fresh are the oysters?
As fresh as they can get. Our oysters are harvested from our farms daily and shipped out directly from the farm to you.
Are the oysters unshucked and still in their shell?
Yes. All our oysters come fresh, unshucked and still in their shells.
How are the oysters shipped and delivered?
The oysters are shipped 1 day overnight through either FedEx or UPS, arriving at your door the next day. We ship the oysters in styrofoam coolers with ice packs keeping them cold. Each cooler has a temperature gauge that ensures the oysters have maintained the correct temperature while being shipped.
How long will the oysters last?
They can last up to 7 days in your refrigerator after they arrive if stored properly.
How do I store the oysters after they arrive?
When your oysters arrive, they will be stored in the cooler in a mesh bag. Take the bag of unshucked raw oysters and place it in a bowl. Cover the bowl with a damp towel and place them in the refrigerator. Check the towel each day and if it is not damp then re damp the towel. This will ensure that your oysters will stay fresh for at least 7 days.
Can I eat oysters in months that don't have an "R" in them?
Yes. Farmed oysters can be eaten year-round. Before refrigeration was around only eating oysters in months that had an "R" in them had merit due to the oysters being harvested in hot temperatures during the summer months, but now oysters can be stored in refrigerators shortly after they are harvested, keeping them fresh and preventing any bacterial growth.
Are oysters good for you?
Yes. Oysters are very good for you and have many health benefits. They are low in calories, high in protein and contain many nutrients such as zinc, copper, B 12, vitamin D among others.
Are the oysters live?
Yes. Fresh oysters are alive when they are harvested and delivered.
